Installation

Batteries

  • Your device will arrive with three, 1.5 volt alkaline batteries in the box.  These batteries can be replaced with any good quality 1.5 volt alkaline batteries.

  • The battery voltage can be viewed in the Methalarm platform (see below for access details).

  • To install the batteries, unscrew the four screws on the back of the device and gently separate the unit.  Ensure batteries are placed correctly in the device.  Place the device together and tighten the screws.  Do not over-tighten.

  • Placing the batteries in the device will activate the device start-up process.

  • Important - we DO NOT recommend using lithium batteries.

  • Allow approximately 48 hours for your readings to settle after changing batteries.

Connecting to the cloud

  1. Your device will arrive with a sim card installed.

  2. Your Methalarm platform login details will be emailed to the contact email address provided at order.  If you have not received your Methalarm platform login details please email support@methalarms.com.

  3. Place your device in a location that has known cell network reception or can 'see' the sky (outside or by a window).

  4. Press the small 'tamper' button on the back of the device for 2 seconds, you will see a lite blue led light flash inside the device.  The LED light will then turn to a dark blue flashing light as the device searches for a network.  Initial connection can take up to two hours depending on your location.

  5. The LED will stop flashing when connected to a network.

  6. A red LED light flashing for 3-5 seconds indicates the device has paired with a network and has sent a message to the platform.  This will occur at each testing interval.

  7. Test the connection by pressing the tamper switch then rotating the device for 5 seconds.  These actions will activate the tamper and tilt alerts respectively.

  8. Your device will now be visible on the Methalarm platform.

Pre-installation

  • The Methalarm device will typically monitor up to 7,000 cubic feet on a single floor with good air flow between rooms.  Identify a central location.

  • You may fit the device to either wall or ceiling.  The location should be a minimum 12 inches from a corner section (where ceiling meets wall).  This avoids the dead air area.

  • Avoid locations with excessive heat or steam such as kitchens and bathrooms.

  • The device can be fitted inside ducting so long as network coverage is available.

Installation

  • To install the Methalarm device you will need four, 1.5 inch wood screws.

  • The Methalarm must be installed in a professional manner.

  • The Methalarm device must be fixed to a stud behind the drywall lining in the wall or ceiling.  The device should sit flat against the drywall.  Failing to properly fix the device to the wall or ceiling may activate the tamper alert.

  • The Methalarm device must be fixed in place level (vertical or horizontal is acceptable). Failing to properly fix the device in a level position may activate the tamper alert.

Activation

  • If you lose your login details to the Methalarm platform please email support@methalarms.com.

  • Allow approximately 48 hours for readings to settle after first installation.

  • Following battery changes, the device may provide a higher than average reading, readings will settle during the following 48 hours.  This is due to particle build up.

Changing unit settings

  • You can change device settings via the Methalarm platform.
